The Many Colors of Spring 2008 Fashion

The Many Colors of Spring 2008 Fashion

Thoughts of spring should be blossoming in your closet! As winter begins to slip away, so do the layers of clothes. Modern Girl Style has thumbed through some of the finest shops in search of beautiful Spring looks. The colors of spring really include gold, ocean blues, platinum, and earth tones. Perhaps, the surprising trend is the oversized handbag-it's a look not going away this year. Michael Kors, Guess, Calvin Klein, Dooney & Burke, & Chloe love the big handbag. Maybe that because you can pack everything into to for a quick escape on your yacht! Bon Voyage!

Don't Take Winter for Granted

Don't Take Winter for Granted

Who has ever heard of taking the winter for granted? Well, that because its cold outside. But, what if you had the most beautiful scarf that was handmade with some of the finest wools on the market? Ah-yeah, winter wouldn't be so bad!

Know Thyself

Start collecting images from magazines & newspaper to create fashion visualization boards. Try creating different styles. Try your hand at a Western theme, Glam theme, and a rock theme. Save these inspiration boards and try dressing your friends for events. Now you're being a stylist in your own life! I mean...don't you think that Rachel Zoe started dressing herself before all of A-list Hollywood?!
Another great style trick is to think about dressing some of your favorite celebrities. Do you love Miley, Britney, Paris, or Lindsay? Why not pull images that reflect their unique style. Once you start doing that you're on your way to thinking like a stylist for film, camera! One more thing, the web is filled with great information to help you manifest your dreams.

As a stylist for commercial print, the most important thing I learned is that it's not about labels, trends, or an unlimited credit card-though trust me it helps! Style is about attitude, action, and self-expression.

As much as I value the ankle and hate to see it swallowed by fur and laces, 1. this layering made me go 'yes' (literally) and 2. this hoody is just so effortlessly cool.

Strength, like fashion, is in the details

Strength, like fashion, is in the details

The fashion industry is often cruel to women. Seasonal trends can end up completely divorced from the female form, unrelated to the bodies of average women. (I love the tulip and bubble shapes because I have no hips - can every woman say the same?) Models take it even further. Once called "mannequins" and prized for being only slightly more trim than the rest of the population, they now tend to be childlike figures posed submissively, sexually, or blankly. Look at any fashion spread or advertisement from the 40s or 50s and then at what's around today: women in fashion were once aloof figures that commanded admiration; today they invite the reader to take advantage of them.
