What is Operating System (OS)?

Operating system is software that operates hardware and other soft wares. In simple words Operating system is a link or bridge between computer hardware and humans. Humans pass instructions to computer system through Operating system. For example if human or computer user saves a file using any Word Processing software then Operating system receives the instructions and stores the file in computer hard disk. There are few operating systems available in market. Microsoft Windows is most famous and user friendly Operating System now a days. Microsoft is a software development company which released Microsoft Windows. Their latest operating system is Microsoft Windows Vista; which is most popular and user friendly including their famous GUI (Graphical User Interface) system.
